So another New Year is upon us, lots of activity ideas to discuss and plan for. Thanks again to the members who attended the February meeting and voted the new officers in. I look forward to helping plan some fun things to learn and do.

We will hold some repeating events for 2008, like the Spring Tailgate Swap on May 17, in Delta CO, and of course Field Day, a weekend event here at Montrose CO on June 28 and 29. Come join us to help install antennas, enjoy the great food, and oh yah work a few QSO's.

We already have some program suggestions of RF Direction finding. So depending on member participation, we may get some foxhunts going this summer. Please let me know of your ideas and be sure to participate and have fun!

Some other events that we support are:

    • San Juan Mountain Runners Black Canyon Ascent a foot race on May 17 requiring radio support for about 2 hours.
    • Hardrock 100 Ultra-Marathon in San Juan Mountains on July 11&12th. Radio support for 1 day at various places, experienced packet operators needed.

Watch for the announcement of the 2008 Colorado QSO Party. MARC members did a remarkable job operating from rare counties in 2007! For those hams that have upgraded recently and have HF voice privileges, the winter contesting season is winding down, but there are many short contests and QSO parties to hone your skills on. This club has many experienced operators who would love to help you, contact a club officer and make your needs known.

The Field Day event in June is our biggest and best training event for HF contesting skills. For those who are into digital communications, we are using packet radio for race logistical support, come find out how tough the San Juan Mountains are for paths.

For those hams who might visit our Western Colorado region, give a shout on National Simplex frequency, or the Cedaredge repeater 147.195 + input.

Thanks to all who make this a great club!

    73, Chris WB0ITG
