FIELD DAY 2007 WRAP UP
Field Day 2007 was a hot one

At the time of is writing (July 12th) the field day final tabulations haven't been made yet, but I think our score this year climbed right up there with the temperature! Our site probably hit 100 degrees and we were sure thankful for plenty of water, our canopy shade, and WBØCQG's air conditioning. We had no wind making this a truly remarkable field day.
A 2A effort plus GOTA fits our club about right. About 25 members participated, and we had 15 visitors, including a Reporter and Photographer from the local paper, thanks to Vern KCØNMP, the resulting Newspaper article and video was well done and timely enough to be passed around the site on Sunday morning while Field Day was still in progress. Lew KCØUER and Vern KCØNMP really know how to get the word out.
The Club Trailer is quite an asset now and Field Day is a favorite hang out for it. It looked sharp with its new decals and signage, our thanks go to Joe NØGYP and the other committee members for helping us be so visible in public. Thanks to AAØZX and WBØCQG for our great housing.
The rig contributions of KJØG, WBØDSG and KCØGKZ provided reliable communications in a low sunspot cycle, pushing our total to over 1800 contacts, which is up from last year. We topped 100 contacts at the GOTA station, so another goal was met there. Getting the antennas to perform had its ups and downs (bad pun I know) but we kept at it, made it happen, and made notes for changes next year I.E. the gamma match on the 15 meter gets an overhaul! We're getting better and better at computer logging and Ron KCØGKZ's efforts are paying off, thanks Ron!
The club's 5kw Jenny is aging and wants to keep shaking off its muffler. We narrowly averted a fire. KIØMR had his standby generator ready and NØXMI rounded up a third, so our power breaks were minimal, Thanks Guys!
Kudos to NØSLF and NØXMI for the great Ribs and Chicken at the much-anticipated covered dish picnic, and to all the others who added to the tasty buffet with some specialties. We always eat well at Field Day! Bill KCØQXX and Dennis WB9EMD put breakfast together Sunday morning, and with Phyl's Strawberry Shortcake delight we enjoyed more good things to eat.
Hearty thanks go to KIØKY, KiØMR, NØGYP and WBØITG for their tireless efforts with the Digital modes and bonus points. And Lew, KCØUER, once again, the public information booth looked great!
One notable visitor Ray AB4YZ from Roanoke Virginia, gave some insight into how a top 10 FD operation is put together. We're glad he found us during his vacation and spent some time, and his great CW skills with us. We even fed him supper!
No group's Field Day ever goes perfectly, but a M.A.R.C. Field Day brings together so many talented people that enjoy what they are doing, and love to contribute. Field Day pulls our club together for a fun event, and with a watchful eye on the Wasps, Prairie Dogs and Frisbee Golfers, we continue to make a big success of " Just Playing with the Radios".
Heart Felt Thanks to all that came and were a part of Field Day 07, demonstrating once again we know how to get it done!
